Green Planet shows off it's gluten free side

This is a repost from a past guest of ours who writes a wonderful blog called Sweet Tea & Wheat Free. It's her personal quest to find gluten free options all over the Triangle.

Green Planet: Plan It Green

Where: Green Planet Catering, 623 Glascock Street, Raleigh, NC

GF Menu: Yes. Green Planet can customize the menu for your event to include Gluten-Free options! Since they use mostly local, seasonal foods, there are no set menus posted on their website. Contact Catering Manager, Daniel Whittaker, at Green Planet to discuss your dietary options for an upcoming event.

What I ate: Cornbread + Arugula Salad + Seasoned Sweet Potatoes

What it looks like:

Green Planet Catering

I know. You’re saying, “but that’s BREAD on your plate!” Yes. Yes, it is. And it’s fluffy and buttery and delicious. This cornbread was so satisfying, I felt like I was doing something naughty just by eating it. I took several more pieces home to enjoy later. The arugula salad with pine nuts, goat cheese, and olive oil vinaigrette was fresh and flavorful. The sweet potatoes were scrumptious, hot, and seasoned with just the right amount of spice. Dessert included local organic dark chocolates. Oh, yes.

Green Note: Everything about Green Planet is green! They feature locally grown, pesticide and hormone-free, foods, many of which come from their own gardens or on sustainable farm sites. For events that are not in-house, they will use mostly compostable and biodegradable plates and dinnerware. Their delivery vehicle runs on fryer oil which has been reclaimed from kitchens and processed at their own Biodiesel Facility. On a side note, the event I attended was for a screening of a new Food Documentary called FRESH (Winner of the 2009 Environmental Film Festival). If you are passionate about farming, knowing where your food comes from, and want to learn more about the new food movement, check it out! Watch the trailer at http://www.freshthemovie.com and organize a home or community screening.
